It is wrong to cruely exploit dogs to fight until they are incapacitated or dead. Pokemon are equally as brutal in fighting if not more brutal, so is it allowed? Are pokemon battles allowed in the US?

The reason I would not let my son play or watch Pokemon for a long time is the very one you mention. The "pokemon aka. pets, are being exploited by their owners to do their fighting for them. Until he was able to explain to me that he recognized that sending your animals/pets to fight for you instead of settling your battles yourself through words (heck I'd rather they pop one another in the nose than send an animal to finalize a dispute) I would not let him watch/play Pokemon. When he was able to understand what was wrong with this approach I let him become involved as a spectator as long as he knew that it was a made up story (storyline) and did not raise these Pokemon handlers up to hero status. It's still a very popular phenomenon so forbidding a child only makes them want to do it more. He has some interest in the game but not the show. I think it is more a fascination with video games than with Pokemon. His eyes have been opened to the issue, now I have to trust the lesson will be applied in time.

Neweflash:

Pokemon are not real and don't feel pain.

Unlike the dogs.
