You need to find the source; but, to get started, run a dehumidifier and if you have windows, open them on low humidity days. If you have AC it will act as a dehumidifier. Open the blinds on sunny days.

Try wiping the white spots with a light bleach solution.

If you have concrete walls, they can be scrubbed and painted with mildew proof paint. Hang damp-rid in the closet.

Air circulation plays a big part in getting rid of it.

I know its more a redirect than a straight-up answer, but I advise you to take a look at the article below for some info on mold and mold control in the home. Among other things, you'll probably be disinclined to use a bleach-based product after reading the article, and you may get some very useful advice on mold control and eradication in a big room like a basement. Some next-generation mold control products can actually be used in conjunction with a misting device (look for a rental at Home Depot, Lowes, etc) to "treat" an entire room. Remember--these new products are NOT bleach or ammonia-based, so you aren't spraying a dangerous product into the air. To prevent mold from returning, you MUST deal with the water source! Good luck!

As the others have said, get a dehumidifier to remove the moisture. clean the basement with a bleach water solution, and use a mold proof paint on the walls. If the walls are damp, there is also a waterproofing paint from Ugli that works well.

Bleach tends to get rid of mold, but you need to find the source of moisture and stop it. We had black mold develop in our basement and it made us very sick and we had to move. The house was to be stripped down, treated and re rocked, but the owner never did, just rented it to someone else.

You need a dehumidifier to remove the moisture out of the air. Mold is nothing to sneeze at. You need to have someone come in to inspect the mold. You may have to sleep elsewhere.
