Not all of them, grandma is a saint..

But I'm talking like the ones you see in public. In their cars they either get right up on your tail- or if they are in front, slow down like a snail.

For instance, I went to the post office, and had to mail a package to my sister the other day on my lunch break. This old grandma type lady was also walking in, and I held the door open, she like " I can get it ", so's I let her get in front of me in the line, after I get my mail, doesn't even give me a "thank you", sees me with my one little package, and goes about getting money orders for every bill in the last six months. She made the mail clerk read it back to huh twice!!! Then she wanted to see every stamp they had in the joint, and argued about the price of it! By the time she got done, I didn't have time for a cigarette and a coffee for lunch. Can you believe this? I'd rather deal with teenagers any day...they get a bad rap, but most are good kids, but some of these old folks..forget it

Yes I know what you mean! There are Very nice old people, like your grandma, and there are really grumpy ones. I don't think age is what makes people grumpy. If they were nice when they were young, then chances are they matured into nice people as well. If an old person is grumpy, chances are she was grumpy, rude, and disrespectful when she was young too. Maybe she wasn't raised to have manners. Maybe she's just having a bad day...sometimes I refuse to smile at anyone when I'm having a bad day. Maybe she has an unhappy life...

I am sorry you didn't have time to enjoy your lunch but think of it this way..when you do a good deed, don't expect anything in return. That will make you a truly charitable person.

Plus I don't think that granny has any wisdom at all...she probably didn't even realize it was going to take that long!

Stay nice, you don't wanna accidentally be mean when a nice old person comes around. : )

Well, as Shakespeare says "old men are made babes again..."

There is a certain factor about senior citizens that almost revert them back into being children. Part of it is just the way the brain ages. Also, much of their behavior is a response to how they are treated. How would you react if many people thought you were annoying, talked too much, drove too slow, and couldn't take care of yourself? It would make me a little perturbed and argumentative. Furthermore, senior citizens are done with 50 long years of work. They feel entitled to a break after all that time of raising children, waiting in grocery store lines, dealing with bills, and working for angry bosses. IN fact, I think they deserve it. However, when this well-deserved respite is interrupted, (whether by a teenager making fun of you or someone taking the last close parking space), they tend to get a little angry.

I retired 2 years ago and actually HATE driving around when the elderly are out driving---they TRULY need to be re-tested and a LOT of them should not be driving at all. As for being grumpy, I think as I get older I can understand what makes an older person SEEM grumpy to young kids and young adults.. Old people have lived a LOT of years, they have aches and pains that most young people can't even IMAGINE. Sometimes simple MOVEMENT is extremely painful work...Most move slower, talk slower, THINK slower then a young person.. As for your trips to the post office..... sometimes the only enjoyment an older person gets is going out in their car (regardless of how bad they drive) and going to the post office or the store...it's the only place they are around PEOPLE until an occasional relative pays them a visit. As I get older, I seem to sympathize more and more with the elderly... I still get upset when one slams on their brakes in front of me for NO APPARENT REASON or signals left and turns RIGHT, but I also realize that someday, MOST of us will be in their conditions and I wonder how WE will be able to deal with the every day life of an elderly person.....They MAY not remember to thank you for holding a door and they MAY exasperate the HECK out of you while they fumble for change to pay for something , but one day, YOU will be that elderly person that someone complains about and how will YOU handle it.

I think they've become jaded over time because of their vast experiences w/ life. I think they just don't care if they're perceived as 'grumpy' because they're past that stage of caring what other people think. And probably because a lot of the people that they knew and cared about are all dead so the rest of the world can just go to hell. It's just my theory though.

i work with some old people that act that way and the only reason i can figure is that they are upset how their life ended up and they can't change anything about it..either they hate their job, their wife or husband upsets them, they never did what they really wanted to do..their dreams cannot come true....i hope that never happens to me
