I had to have my water broken with both of my children to speed up labor and yes it works. It is very safe just a little uncomfortable. I would suggest that to anybody before choosing the other route. Good luck and congratulations!!!!

I had my 2nd prenancy induced on the 28th of June this year and this is what I was told...they can't break your water until you are in first stages of active labor because if they do and you are in active labor it could put stress on your baby from lack of fluids because of your water being broke. That is why you are suppose to get to the hospital if your water breaks and you aren't in labor. Also youre midwife doesn't have to use pitocin there are other things she can use because my doctor used something else before they were going to use the pitocin and it worked so well that they ended up not having to use the pitocin.
But to answer ur question up front...no it would not be a good idea for the midwife to break your water without you being in labor.

Im not sure about that one. I was induced via IV with Pitocin (is that how you spell it?) and that process went very fast. 2 hours later my Dr came in with a crochette looking needle and broke my water for me. It was kind of strange feeling although I did have an epidural also. You should ask your midwife or Dr about the details on that. Im sure how long it is safe for the baby without fluids in there.

You need to talk to your midwife about what she's willing to do. i've heard of them doing a "membrane sweep"...but honestly hon if baby isn't ready, it isn't safe to break your water. If baby isn't ready, you're not going into labor, and having your water forcibly broken isn't going to change that...some women accidentally have their water broken too early into pregnancy, but that doesn't mean the baby comes then...they are given antibiotics to ward off infection because it causes serious complications to baby is the water is broken too long beofre delivery. So if your water is artificiaclly broken you nly have 24 hours to go into labor after that or they WILL use pitocin.

STAY AWAY FROM BLUE COUCH, BLACK COUCH, DRAG WOOD, etc. They all most killed my baby. A lot of dangers w/ herbs. Try to locate labor balm on the Internet. You rub it on your belly and will go into labor 24 to 48 hours after using it. If i remember right the breath in in of the herbs is what makes u go into labor. God bless girl. I am so glad it is u and not me. I hope u will try breast feeding. The cost of the balm is about $14.95.

wow... another cm and they keep you anyways. I would seriously try to let labor come on it's own... maybe some natural prodding... I've heard that eggplant is supposed to contain oxytocin... also herbs such as Blue Cohosh and Fenugreek have been known to induce labor.
