You are best off to make it a firemouth tank, and be done with it, but if you do add other cichlids, be careful they're not too big or aggressive. Add Jack Dempseys and you are bound to have dead firemouths eventually. These cichlids do best in species tanks - adding other cichlids is like asking 'what fish coud I addthat would naturally be a threat and competition for my cichlids', yet possibly be tolerated?' The only true answer is none. Since most find it hard to believe I expect not to be agreed with.

I like Jack Dempseys as tank mates for firemouths. You could get away with 2 of each in a 55 gallon. Convicts are also a good possibility.

try looking at urau cichlids, they are alittle large, but they will be ok in a 55 gallon, well one of them anyway.

But for aggressive firemouths you might look into convict cichlids, or chocolate cichlids

No plecos or goldfish. the two require countless area. particular, a goldfish would desire to artwork, yet they are greater upkeep; you will desire to easily throw those in a pond. Plecostomus get very large, so i does not advise them. once you're doing Cichilids, %. one and learn each and every thing it demands. it might desire to be a fabulous construction block on your aquarium. If not, diverse species of botia (loaches) are straightforward and extremely fascinating. in simple terms seem around and do your learn.
