My son will be 10 weeks on Monday and I was planning on moving him into his big boy crib after I've been back to work for at least a month. He still isn't sleeping through the night.

I moved my son into his own crib by 1 month. He slept in his bassinet by our bed up until then. My situation was different because my son only woke up once during the night when he was a newborn and I went back to work 6 weeks after he was born.

Also we moved him into his crib because we were afraid that he would become used to sleeping in our room and we couldn't move him into his crib.

My advice: Do it when your ready.

We moved our daughter gradually from the time she was 5 months until around 12 months. There's no one right way; you have to assess what works for you and your family.

My daughter didn't sleep through the night until she was around 10 months which is normal for a bf'ed baby (and also normal for a ff'ed baby, just less expected). We started putting her in her own room when she went to bed for the night, then when she had her first night nursing, I'd bring her to our room for the rest of the night. Gradually, the night nursing went away and now she sleeps all night (8ish pm-7am) in her room.

We continued to take our naps together ('cause I loves me some sleep!) until the bed hog - I mean baby - made it not so comfy anymore. So at that point, around 11 months, she was doing 90% of her sleeping in her room.

There was no crying, no problems, nothing. Very easy and very comfortable, just a slow, patient process. Plus I got as much sleep as I needed, even when she was waking a lot.

Do whatever gets you and baby the most sleep; that is the priority. You're not setting up any "bad habits" by letting baby sleep in your room at this age, you can move him gradually whenever you and he seem ready.

Start it now, Pick a weekend where you have a day two catch up on sleep and put him in his crib then when he has cried for 15 minutes go in rub his back make sure he is ok but do not pick him up. He needs to learn to calm himself down. I did not do this and it was a mistake he was 16 months befor he learned to sleep through the night and my doctor told me to do this. It is very hard but well worth the couple of days of no sleep. Christopher is finally sleeping through the night. Best of luck

I have 2 sons, 3 years and 8 months, and they both still sleep in bed with me and my husband. We love it, the closeness of the family bed. It works perfectly for all of us. But sleeping arrangements depend on each family and child. Just watch how your child takes the change, be tuned in to his needs while being mindful of your own.

I started my son in his crib around 10 weeks. He actually started to sleep better once I put him in there. He is now 5 months, as soon as I put him down for bed, even if he is wide awake, he turns to the side and falls fast asleep. Start with putting him in there for naps to get him used to it. It might feel big to him at first, but he'll get used to it. I think with my next one I might start them in it right away!!!

I would personally move him now because I strongly feel that he needs to learn to self soothe at this age... within reason of course. Maybe not out of your room (I kept mine in the same room for a while) but in his own bed.
