I have a 1998 Ford Contour, V6, 92000 miles. Usually, my car shifts gears pretty well and I just feel it a little bit like you do on most cars. But, whenever I accelerate really quickly (like pulling out very fast from a stop sign) the transmission shifts really hard and the car sort of jerks as it shifts. After that initial jerk, the car runs fine and acts normal. What does this mean?

Im guessing its an automatic transmission. Have a mechanic check it out, over time the bands can become loose causing the timing to be off when the trans should shift. If you are constanly manually shifting your automatic transmission through the gears this can also cause it to get out of sync.

Trade your car off... Its time to get a new one... A lot of the new fords are having problems with the transmissions going out.... I know I am a girl... but my hubby is a FORD guy and fixes vehicles a lot... this is what he told me to tell you....

He also said change your filter and flush the lines..... if this doesnt work... then def. trade it off......

Good luck!

hey if its shifting really hard you may need motor mounts because i have a 1997 ply breeze and i swear it was just doing the same thing and you know what if you dont get your motor mounts fixed it will mess up your tranny its actually the transmission mounts thats doing that thats why when you take off fast it feels like your gonna get whip lash huh?

change the tranny oil and filter, and try that. you also might put some good tranny conditioner in it too, like bg.

have you ever changed the transmission fluid and filter? this should be done just like your engine oil change. just not as often. i would try that first. transmission fluid degrades over time and loses its lubricity.

You need a tune-up; get your spark plugs replaced and your trans fluid flushed and replaced.
