I heard there were thirteen states before, but now people say that there's a lot more so I was just wondering how many states are there in the United States?

I can see that serious sarcasm does not necessarily equate to seriously-interesting questions. Sorry but unless you are more than 200 years old saying 13 states doesn't make me believe you. The last of the 50 states was added in 1959. Born before that date would make you pretty old compared to the average Yahoo Answerer so the truth has probably existed in front of you for all of your life. It's a bad time to play dumb.
