"Power hungry monster much worse than Bush" -- LOL -- There's the best answer ever!

Not for the money, no! She and Scholastic shouldn't and couldn't care less about those spoilers. The book will sell no matter what. Billions (not millions) are eagerly waiting for this last book. Trust me, it will sell.

As the hype of the spoilers started, Rowling simply plays along, because it will build up the hype, the thrill, the excitement, the anticipation and the mysteries behind the launching of this last book, even more than it already is.

Like I said, it's not for the money. It just makes the climax of the anticipation and the waiting better and more explosive for the fans. That's her main goal, to satisfy the fans as best as possible. And this whole thing helps a lot.

Get real. If you were a billionaire, would the piddling amount lost through spoilers really matter to you?

Jo Rowling is an educator and a parent who really cares about children. If you look at all the charities and causes she supports, you clearly see the deep love and concern she has for all children. I believe her when she says she doesn't want anyone to spoil her fans' enjoyment of the experience of discovery in reading her final book in the series.

If she has any concern about money at all, it is about the livelihoods of all the people connected with the printing, production, and distribution of the books.

Did she ever say it was? I believe the strict policy of releasing it simultaneously was bourne out of the huge success of the book and the excitement of the fans and of course how widely used the web has been since. It was never her intention I bet. Even if her books leak, or advance copies were released, or spoilers abound, people would still buy it. She said so in her website. So I agree with twinkle and Y!Arnlday that she respects the fans and readers of her book. She's not the one making the fuss, her publishers are. And we are.

Because when people put a lot of work into something that requires an amount of secrecy, revealing the secret can ruin it for them. Think people who throw surprise parties.

And so what if its all about the $$$? This is her job. She has every right to be concerned if people are interfereing with her career.

PS - When did JK Rowling ever force people to buy her stuff, mississauga native power? People need to take responsibility for their choices and not blame the people who make it available. -_-

She's already been paid for the books from the first print, you realize. Walmart, Barnes and Noble, etc, have already ordered the first set of copies they're going to be selling. They have to pay for them BEFORE they sell them. The only ones whose paycheck would be hurt would be the those companies.

Her motivation for not wanting it to get out is probably more like "wow, all of these people have been waiting so long for this book, it would be an awful waste if someone ruined it for them DAYS before they got it." Not to mention, she's an intelligent person herself and understands how badly that would suck.

Also; it's her work. She is the end-all-be-all decider of the release date, and people are trying to challenge that. I wouldn't be happy about it, either. In fact, I'd be pissed if someone tried to contradict me about my own work's release date.

Well, really...

While it might be partly about money, Harry Potter is practically her baby.

The story is hers.

The franchise and the characters and everything...

it's hers.

I would be upset if someone infringed on my story.

If someone put things that belonged to me in the open before I wanted them out there.

It's like when you tell a friend that you have a crush on someone...and that friend tells the person you're crushing on that you like them and even if they may have been interested in you, they lose interest because they think you were too afraid to do it yourself even if you'd decided to act on said crush within a few days.

It's not about money, she's made more than enough already. It's about protecting her work. It's her work and people should respect that.

I know I would be pissed if someone leaks my work before I say so.

She has more money than she could possibly use, and she can't even give it away as fast as it comes in. That's the silliest reason there could be.
She respects her fans, that is the only reason.
