Because cell walls make the cell very rigid. Animal cells are very fluid in both movement and composition. It also limits the access of external influences on the cell. A lot of the communication that goes in an animal cell deals with hormones and other stimulation binding to receptors on the cell surface. By having a cell wall you make it more difficult to access those stimulants. Another reason would be the addition and removal of nutrients, again having a rigid cell wall limits this.

Also plant cells do not move, or do not move much. Animals (almost all) animals are based upon movement. A cell wall is a complex starch which would inhibit movement, can you imagine if you leg was as stiff as a tree trunk or brittle as a stalk of hay.

Plant's cell walls exist to give them structural stability. Animals usually have other means of that (like skeletons). Animal cells need to be permeable in some cases and a cell wall would prohibit that.
