Since George Washington is the central and critical figure in the founding of the United States, and is commonly referred to as father of the nation, then the mother is non other than his lovely wife Martha Dandridge Custis Washington.
Although the title was not coined until after her death, Martha Washington is considered as the first First Lady of the United States. During her lifetime, she was simply known as "Lady Washington".
