I want some that aren't very common. Kind of like the Dire wolf, or the Billy Blind and such. I'm trying to get some info to write a book so...yeah. THANKS! :)

If you want an excellent book of the original versions of USA Folklore--not the disney and movie versions, Get a copy of "A Treasury of American Folklore" by B. A. Botkin.

The first answer is good - the "Monster Manual" will give you names and descriptions of creatures from cultural myths that are usually not part of American public education. This is a good jumping-off point for further research.

Some of the most interesting creatures not common in our culture are from India and Japan. One I remember particularly is the Rakshasa (Indian myth) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakshasa . Another tack might be to research gnostic beliefs http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism#Important_terms_and_concepts .
