You have a chance of getting TSS if you don't follow the tampon directions and leave it in longer than 8 hours. The rule is to use a tampon correlating to your flow. If you are heavy it is perfectly safe to use a super tampon and wear it for 6-8 hours. (just don't leave it in longer than 8 hours, and it will be VERY UNLIKELY that you'll get TSS)

I've used tampons for long enough to tell you you should not be scared of them. It'll be your first time though, so it will probably take some time before you get used to putting them in (especially if you're not sexually active). My advice is you try now, even though you still don't have your period, just to see how it works. Also, remember you have to put it deep enough, otherwise you'd feel it and it'd hurt when you walk.
I use O.B. so i can't say anything about the rest:)

Personally, if you plan to go in the water, I don't think you will be able to stay 6 hours without changing it, because it absorbs the water and starts leaking pretty soon.
I f you go in the water towards the end so that you can change it sooner and if you have some dark pants you can put on on the boat, you should be fine.
Otherwise if you stay dry, the biggest ones should last long enough, but you may consider an additional pad and dark pants anyway:)))

Hope this helps.

To Marcy
Every time I go in the pool with a tampon, i change it immediately afterwards and it's ALWAYS expanded to its maximum and watery and mushy and the little 'period' that was on it is dripping. If yours doesn't, then maybe it's to the tampon brand and person:)))

You should be okay for 8-10 hours with a tampon. I wouldn't go much longer than that.

if all else fails...is it possible to just not go in the water? That way you can just use a pad
