ok, your video card is integrated.

now, you can purchase and install another one IF you have an empty slot.

You are looking for AGP or PCI Express. Best thing to do is check on your motherboard's documentation to see if it comes with one slot of those (and check the speed of it too).

you can also install programs such as Aida or Everest which can tell you exactly what it is you have in your PC.

note, you can also install a graphics card on a PCI (not express) slot but it's not going to have a good performance.

after/if you install a new video card, you'll need to disable your current one from the BIOS (i think it's F2 to access it when the pc boots, check on the screen and it will tell you)

In your specific case, the answer is yes, but you can ONLY upgrade through Dell.

If you check on Dell's website for the 9400, they will say that you can upgrade to ATI Radeon Mobility 1400.

Someone said it's just a different name for Inspiron E1705. If so, people have upgraded that machine to NVidia GeForce Go 7800 or even 7900 (available on the XPS series). If you can find the part, of course. And expect to pay a LOT more than store price equivalents.

Again, ONLY available through Dell, or eBay and such parts bins.

Yes, I'm really sure of it! But the real-time games like Oblivion, Gothic 3, Flight Simulator X. If you want to make your computer to handle these games. I recommended that you will upgrade 1 GB RAM to make your computer faster. Graphic card? I would say any 7 series cards or Geforce 7800 GT, GTX or up to Geforce 7950 GT can make Oblivion look better and better framerates. But if you want a cheaper price for Graphic cards, you could buy any 7 series with GS.

Dell Inspiron 9400 with Core 2 Duo and Nvidia 7900 GS Review

Says its Canadian version of the Dell Inspiron e1705
comes with a NVidia 7900 not a 945GM (??)

http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3379

as you can see from this link the 945GM is not a video card or device its a motherboard chipset

you can tell real fast by looking at is the cable from the monitor sideways when it connets or up and down. screws will tell if sideways or up and down.......if sideways yes you can install agp card.....if up and down you have integrated graphics...... you may still have a agp port on the board. open the case and see if you ahve a brown slot ...it will be the topmost slot if you do you can disable the integrated graphics in the bios and use the agp slot if present on the motherboard

in theory, you can but they are very expensive and buggy. they will plug in to pcia or pcia express but usually suffer from problems from drivers and lags, depending on your usage, u can try a usb or pci/express card but i reccomend u go against this route, the best sadly, is a new laptop or desktop.

It's integrated in the motherboard and you can't upgrade it.
