yea, its basically an ugly and very painful bruise. If you slammed it really hard, chances are, your nail may fall off... and it will hurt...
ouch... sorry that happened...

why does everyone think blood is blue until it hits oxygen? blood carries oxygen- it's always in the presence of some oxygen. the reason it looks blue is that the blood vessel membrane and the skin layered over the redness of the blood give it a different tone for some reason (blood vessels in your eyeballs are red, right? no skin over them.) If your doctor said it was alright then it should be fine- put ice on it and take some aspirin. If you have one of those metal finger splints at home use it (they're horseshoe shaped and fit over your finger, tape it on to tighten it with athletic tape). If you don't have them they can be purchased at most drug stores.

I agree with all the ouches. Here are some ways to help in the meantime. 1). Ice or cold may help 2). Try to keep it elevated or in whatever position feels the best..keeping it low may make it throb 3). Pain meds; if your Doc gave you some, use as directed of course. If not, Aspirin, Tylenol,or a Motrin type med might help. Also, use as directed and be careful of any allergies you might have. See your MD if there are any signs of infection like redness, swelling, pus, or if the finger involved lacks movement or sensation. Time will fix you up.

Glad it's not broken. It's basically a bruise that will take a few weeks to get better.
If i was you I would make up a real cool story about how it happened. Slammed it in a door - Lame.
Maybe someone can give you a real good cover story for your friends.
Get better soon.

yeah, you're right about the blue looking blood. if i was you, i would make some sort of splint, i.e. a popsicle stick, and tie it so your finger will heal correctly. don't try and bend it too much and put ice on it. you'll be fine!!! (:

2 weeks most injuries heal this long. Just take medications for pain. And have an anti-inflammatory drug taken also. Frequency of taking it, should consult your doctor.
