Ok, I'm wondering if Guild Wars is worth the $30? I was a fanatic of City of Heroes but I wasn't too fond of the $15 dollars a month thing, and I saw Guild Wars has free online play.

Is Guild Wars a great online game?

Well, I think it's a great game. There is a ton of stuff to do in the game. You won't get bored quick. It's not too complicated. The fighting is based on using "skills" which you can activate with keystrokes or the mouse. Once you get the hang of which skills do what, you're on your way to mastering the fighting. Of course, PvP is much tougher than PvE and will take awhile.

The PvP action is dominated by players who have learned to use the skills well, not by the richest players who have the money to buy the best equipment. You can get decent weapons and armor fairly cheaply in GW, but can also spend a fortune on rare armor and weapons that looks nicer, but doesn't really help you in battle any better than the cheap stuff.

You can customize your character to a point. When you first login and create a character, you choose their profession, hairstyle, facial expression, skin tone, height and most importantly, their name. Take your time here and choose something you like. It's permanent. If you decide later that you hate the name you picked or the hairstyle, your only
choice is to delete the character. Later on you'll have different armor selections and weapon selections in the game which will further define your character and fighting style.

You'll have anywhere from 4-8 character slots to play with, so experiment with different professions and find the one you enjoy best.
