...this poem:

There once was a boy named E.
Texas-born and -raised was he. (are those hyphens right?)
Poetry wasn't his forte,
Despite his being gay,
As you can plainly see.
(Limerick??)

Oh my gosh! You just made me laugh right out loud. I like it, I really really do!

I don't know if it fits the limerick form, but it certainly has the heart and soul of a limerick!

You're definitely not a lyricist. Here's my take:

There once was a boy Texas-raised,
Whose gay life was not roundly praised,
For down in that State
There's still quite a wait
For bigots to stop acting crazed.

I like it! I can't write poetry. I had to write poems for one of my writing classes in college and it sucked because I always felt inadequate writing them.

I wouldn't worry about that last line, I think it goes well with the others. Thanks for sharing with us. :)
