first thing, why would you need to know how to modify the molecular state? But anyways, you need to create a reaction that allows you to move particles, and it may requires alot of kilojoules.

You could chuck them in a vat of acid. That would certainly alter the state of their molecules (namely by disintegrating them). You could also exposed them to a large amount of heat, which would result in different chemical changes.

You can beam them up, and if that malfunctions - then their molecular state is altered.
