I live in MO. 2 friends and I took over the last half of a year-long lease from a group of four girls. I was added to the lease, but my 2 friends were not, the landlord demanded that the four girls remain on the lease until it was up. I lost my job and the 2 friends moved out. The 2 friends said they would help with the remainder of the rent, but so far they have both stiffed me. I got a new job, but I cannot afford the entire rent payment. In addition the land is charging $3 per day that the rent is late. Any thoughts.

you are bound by the lease cuz you were added onto it. without a written signed agreement with your 2 friends, you could try a civil suit against them but proof will be difficult if you have no paper trail showing the 2 were liable and bound also, any receipts? you are probably stiffed without any proof.
What you should do fast fast find some new roomates and charge a deposit to help you catch up back rent and late charges... GET PAPER TRAIL AND SIGNED AGREEMENTS from them so you don't get screwed again.!! good luck

The 4 girls are still just as responsible for the lease as you are. Each of them should pay 1/5 of the rent including late fees.

sounds like ur friends were just freeloaders
but the 4 other girls on the lease are responsible for the rent to even though they moved out. i would make them help u since u did take it over for them!
as for the other girls there is prob nothing u can do about it but talk to a lawyer they may have a suggestion

well, here in vegas it's $65 for the first late day and $5 per day...it would be better to move out and make payment arrangements then to be evicted...i work in property management...unfortunatley the girls will be responsible as well...anyone on the lease!!!!

This is much like a sub-let, from the 4 girls.
Unfortunately for them, they are on the hook for the original lease terms.

great "Friends" you have there. try to get out of the lease if you have somewhere else to live. most landlords are realistic.

He'll have to go after all of you equally. You are all liable.
