My husband is the main user, and when he tries to change his wallpaper (in the Desktop tab of Display properties), the only buttons that work are "color," "customize desktop," "ok," and "cancel."

Position is faded gray and doesn't work, as is Browse.

The other two users don't have this problem.

btw, we are running Windows XP

Come on people. Read the post all the way.

If the boxes are greyed out then that means that his User account isn't given admin privileges.

What you try to do is open the picture you want to become the wallpaper, right click on the picture and select "Set as Desktop Background"

This may be because wallpaper has been disabled within the Windows registry. To fix it, you might need to have "administrative" rights on the computer, but here's something you can try:

Go to this website:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Scroll down to line 142 and go over to the RIGHT HAND side. Click on the link that says "Allow Wallpaper/Background changes" You should be able to download the file to your computer by clicking it, or by right-clicking and choosing "Save target as" (Note: the file to DISABLE wallpaper is right next to it, so don't download the wrong file!)

Once you've downloaded the file, you can probably activate the Registry file by double clicking it. If that doesn't work, you can right click it and choose "merge" If you have the right administrative permissions on the computer, that will hopefully fix the problem.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thast weird, it should be a way to change wallpaper..

did something happen to the wallpaper, go to the windows folder, see any folder with the wallpapers, there should be files regarding the wallpapers, if those files are corrupted, or mising, then no more wallpapers...

be carefull

If you have trouble with the first suggestion, the alternative is to find the picture you want (in any program ie. Firefox, IE, Explorer). Right click on it and "set as desktop background"
