That's illegal to do since Bush would have to turn America over to the United Nations till the war on terrorism is won. We all know that war will never end, there will always be terrorists.
Besides, a president can only serve 2 terms. The new president would have to continue the martial law. But, if American can no longer take care of itself, it has to be given over to the United Nations to run. Clinton saw to that via a Public Document he signed into law before he left office.

Can you say, "October Surprise?"

Personally, I think that sometime in October of 2008, Chertoff's gut is going to have gas again, many people will get gassed by it, Bush will declare a "national emergency," and declare martial law.
At that point, Bush would install himself as "Supreme Leader," cancel the election until HE decided that the "emergency" was over, which would be either when he decides to step down, or the people are so fed up with him that they rebel against him.

These powers have been instituted, not by Bush, but by previous administrations.

You have got to be kidding! Since six more young Americans died today in this bloody war, Bush had better not even try to stop the election in any way or there will be a revolt in this country that would make the first one seem like a cake walk! Stay the course indeed! I will have to concede this, however, we must find a way to leave causing the least amount of damage to those left behind as possible. We have already caused enough damage to these peoples lives & to do further harm to them would be scurrilous & all of those countries around Iraq would have just cause to hate us more than they already do.

Are we losing it here. There is know reason for it and I doubt that anyone would approve of any such thing. You Bush haters need to find something better to do. Peace

That would be hilarious (for foreigners!) Remember when he declared 'victory' 3 years ago? How long do you think his martial law might last?
My money would be on Putin or China to lead the world in future if he goes down that route.

Thankfully, that will never happen. That will cause such an uproar in America!

I believe we need to continue the fight against terrorism, but barring something catastrophic I refuse to give up the constitutionally supported elections that define America.

considering Bush is losing the war on terror by letting al-qaeda grow at an all-time high, i undoubtebly would disagree with you. Have you seen the Iraq War lately? It's not going very well. But you probably watch Fox "News" Channel and they tell you Iraq is a utopia. Good luck son.
