$30,000 is just barly enough to keep a roof over your head and food in your belly.

Per capita income in the US is around 27,000 - since you're making more money than half the people in the US, you should obviously be paying taxes.

No, I'm not serious. Depending on where you live, yeah, it may be hard to live on 30k. Regardless, though, you /will/ be paying taxes. Even if you get a break on income taxes, you'll be paying Social Security, which is collected from the very first dollar you make.

I agree wholeheartedly Bud! Trouble is, the Democrats, who've just taken over everything but the presidency (and they seem to be favored to take that over next time around according to all the polls -- I don't believe the dreck, but you'd be amazed how many otherwise intellegent people do) seem hellbent on raising taxes on "the rich". Now if you can remember the Clinton Administration (and his b-i-t-c-h is about to recreate it, if you believe the polls) defined "rich" as $30,000 a year, or more! Even worse, that included the combined incomes of married couples, so two $15,000's could be "rich" if they were damned fool enough to get married to each other! I shouldn't complain, I guess. I never got rich under Republicans. But under the Democrats, I was "rich". Trouble was, it didn't get me anything other than a higher tax bill! So I continued to drive my '71 VW Bug, like the millionaire Texas oilman H.L. Hunt, who drove a '57 Chevy to his dying day. Under Bush, I got the maximum $600 tax rebate, which the Democrats (or as I call them, the Dumb-ocrats!) claimed went only to the "upper 2% of all taxpayers). Boy, I was REALLY rich now. I wrote my Dad a letter telling him how I'd made good, not in cattle, grain, or oil, but by teaching school! And they say there's no money in education. Au Contraire! Anyway, fast forward a few years, and despite a messy divorce, my Bug is long gone, and I own a 2001 Ford pick-up truck, a 2005 Ford Mustang, and a 2007 Harley Davidson! Yeah man! I'd rather be rich under Republicans any day!

Nobody should pay federal income tax. The tax is an abomination to mankind. America survived for well over 100 years without an income tax and achieved unprecedent growth and became the strongest nation on Earth without an income tax.

The Federal Rerserve Act and Income Tax Amendment were an assualt on the American people.

When the Income Tax Amendment was debated, a cap of 2% was to be placed on it but proponents said it would be unnecessary as taxes would never exceed 2%.

Lies - nothing but lies.

I've made as little as 22k/yr, supported a family of four (me, wife, two kids) and did it w/o govt. support. It's all a matter of personal choice. We ate good every night, had clean (new) clothes, two nice (paid for used cars), and a decent home. I now make $38,500 and it's as if I'm on top of the world, however, we still live in the same house, drive the same cars, shop for our clothes at Wal-Mart, and clip the hell out of coupons.

Personally, I think they should (but never will) implement the fair tax act.

What is the current poverty level? People under it need help, as well as motivation in looking to improve themselves if possible. I was laid off for an extended period once. I took every possible work I could get to bring in income - and reported it to the Unemployment Bureau when I got it, for reduction that week in aid - which ended up extending my unemployment benefits for almost a year until I DID get some permanent employment.
