does anyone know how to clean dry-clean upholstery without calling a professional?

You can rent the carpet/upholstery cleaners that you see at the supermarket. They also sell the upholstery shampoo.

Yes, and I have done it. Not an easy task unless you are just spot cleaning. In most major furniture stores, they sell the kits and it usually comes in a pack with furniture and leather cleaner too.

You can also try bed bath and beyond, they have some items that work but not all do. I have had the best luck with the furniture store one. It works very similar to Dryel.
