Yes, during the Clinton years.
Bush has screwed up this nation so bad, there's no reason for anyone to be optimistic anymore.

Am one.
Patriot, first and foremost.
Support my country ahead of my personal ideology.
Respectful to my elected representatives.
Support free speech (even for republican talk show hosts);
Support free expression (including for Christian fundamentalists);
Support equality (not special rights for special groups);
Against socialism.
Old-fashioned, I guess.
I even treat other Americans of republican persuasion respectfully! What a concept! No political bigotry!
When you see us (there are quite a few), cheer us on. Don't let it slow you down in what you believe. I have a few beefs myself about the present Democratic party.
Lieberman is my bet. I'll lose. Tough, it's not about popularity if you do it right.

Yes. Many are optimistic that they will win the Presidency plus more Senate and House seats in 2008.
