im at the point of my career where im looking for an acting agent or management company. ive met with a couple but they are all scams! does anyone know of any legit companies who work with teens?

Well, you're in luck. That's one of the best places to look for an agent because there are tons of legit ones out there. Go to www.Sag.org , use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions.
Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.
Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying.
In NY, doing theatre may be a big harder if you're not Equity. I would take NewYorkGal's word on this one... It's her city :-)

You're lucky NY has TONS of legit agents. I suggest looking at the Abrams Artist Agency, which has a great children's (teen) department.
All legits agencies need licenses to operate. Many of them are listed here: http://www.agentassociation.com

There are not many scam agencies in NYC because the
New York Department of State would have closed them.
Buy The Ross Reports. It lists EVERY Talent Agency in New York City. Ask your mom or dad to find Ross Reports at one of the large NYC newstands.
