You are obviously from the North and under 50. It is just a fad back in the 1950s. A way to eat peanuts and drink a Coke at the same time and not get your fingers all oily and salty. If you leave them in there long enugh they get sort of soggy. I have tried it many times as a teenager. It doesn't even have to be Coke. Any soda will work. And no, it doesn't cause a reaction. It does taste a little different.

I know, I wonder too!! Because I answered a question here the other day and the lady asked if you were country when it wasn't cool and also if you put peanuts in your coke. I like country and I live in the south but i have never heard about the peanut and coke thing. I am going to try it though! <33
