Lots of job opportunities at minimum wage. Not so many at other levels. The stock market is doing real well for now. The dollar is tanking on the international market. We owe Communist China over a trillion dollars so we are pretty much at their mercy, we are not soverign any more, they can command and we will have to obey. Its in serious trouble.

If things are being made in the USA things are good because every manufacturing job creates 16 more jobs and if its mainly a service economy things are bad because wages will become stagnant especially with all the illegals coming in and that hurts the middle class and eventually hurts the circulation of money which needs to be spread around for a economy to do well.

The job market - read the want ads. My checking account. But the fact that I make 20 dollars an hour less than I did 6 years ago is a big clue.

How much people are earning, how much people are spending, home ownership, employment, and to some degree the stock market. I'd also look if new business are being opened. Entrepreneurialism is a good sign of a thriving economy.

Unemployment - good
Home ownership - good
Equity appreciation - good
GDP growth - bad
Inflation - bad
Currency values - bad
I think its mixed, not nearly as bad as half the people are saying and not nearly as good as the other half says. Moving forward without addressing inflation and gdp growth will have a negative effect on investments and equity valuation, so I think moves need to be made to encourage growth and restore fiscal stability (ie, spending AND tax cuts)
