Did you ever really think about it? What would we do? We wouldn't be able to buy anything including heat or gas for our cars because the companies wouldn't be able to ring up our sales. . No disposable diapers. There would be no phones or medicines or even clean water.

To curious canadian - I had surgery a few weeks ago and am recovering. That's why I've been on here so much. Thanks for the reality check though. I need to stop wasting so much time on here.

It would be a huge disaster! People MIGHT be able to tough it out, as skaterdude said, on a local/home level....If they thought FEMA was coming in with help (as during the aftermath of Katrina). But, what if the gov't lost electricity? No computers, no power to gov't offices, data lost, etc. They have enough trouble functioning WITH everything working. Without it, they'd crumble. It'd be anarchy within a short time...and violent at that.

Good grief! Are you ever off yahoo answers?!!? It was bad enough when our power was off for three days last year without any warning. Not a pleasant situation to be in but of course people use to have to manage years ago - don't know about no medicines - there were always herbal remedies. Water - yes that is the scary part but in my part of the world -Vancouver ca- we have a two week supply of water in our earthquake supplies but not 2 years!

We will surely return to basics... I work in Africa now and due to my work I am sometimes for many days in places where there are 0 contact with the outside world - not even to speak of electricity... lol To be honest - it is a wonderful experience to understand what primitave life is all about!! It enrich your soul and whole spirutal being - you find your real inner-self... Maybe it could help humanity to return back to earth and help us all to appreciate the basics in life - the things no money can buy... So to give my opinion - for some it would be absolute chaos, but to others it will give life!

Never mind ringing up the sales, factories wouldn't be able to produce the products to sell. Look at the up side, though, no sky high electric bills.

Well, as far as selling things, I think that enterprising businesspeople would still figure out a way to take money and sell us things...

My short answer to this question is what my dad always says we can do when the power goes out: "Sleep and play acoustic instruments."

Wow, nice question. I think we're to dependent on things like that. I'm sure that people would survive though. We'd just have to learn some new skills

For some they would probably resort to violence. That would be the most likely course for many Americans.

I went through Katrina.......we know what it's like already. But we survived. It can be done. Human beings have a remarkable desire to survive, so they find a way.
