This happens while I am sewing and yes I use a needle.

Well, of course you use a needle. Otherwise that needle thread wouldn't get stuck and tangled around the hook.

The last time this happened to me, I was working on a machine and giving it a test, and the thread went round and round the race, and tangled all up. I discovered two things amiss:

1. I had the bobbin threaded incorrectly, with the thread going in the wrong direction. If you look at your manual, yo'll see that usually the manual is very particular about how the thread is supposed to be going on the bobbin when you put the bobbin in the bobbin case. Put it in with the thread going the wrong way, and it doesn't feed out of the bobbincase correctly. It's part of the act too, and if it isn't doing its part, things can happen.

2. I hadn't cleaned the upper tension and there was a wad of lint from the owner in there that was as large as a spider's egg sack.

Once I cleaned out the upper tensions so that they could do their job, and corrected the threading on the bobbin case, following the directions in the owner's manual as if they were gospel truth, the machine ran as it was intended to, and all was well.

Sometimes it's the little things.

Not quite sure I understand what you're saying, but one common mistake is not to firmly hold the tails of the threads to the side or back of the needle when first starting to sew... if you don't, they can easily et drawn down into the bobbin area and make a mess!

Is your upper thread engaged in the top tension mechanism? When the upper tension is off or too loose, that can cause it to create a mousenest of thread. Also, is your bottom tension correct?

Possibly you might have the bobbin in the bobbincase incorrectly. Most should turn clockwise when you pull the thread.
Good luck
