Stress is a big reason a lot of pet tortoises die. Changes in habitat and moving them can stress them, so the 'take it to school' idea should be thought about carefully.

Ill animals try to hide or pretend they are OK. Sick tortoises will show strange things, like strange noises, strange looking feces, strange bubbling around the nose, etc.

Captive pet tortoises generally live for about 5-10 years. With good care, however, some species can go for 30-60. A very few lucky animals may hit older than that.

1. Yes, they can die due to stress.
2. You can tell when a tortoise is sick, when it's not eating, or even going to the bathroom w/ unusual stuff in his feces.
3. They can live up to 50 years I believe!
4. Well, depends if your school will allow him, if you have to I'd say make sure you have room for him and food and all that stuff.
Have Fun!

If it's desert tortoise it's an endangered species and you should have left it where you found it.
If it's already domesticated it still should be handle minimally humans can give it a respiratory disease. If it becomes stressed it can dischrage all the fluids it is saving for hibernation.

could have been parasites. Guessing via what you pronounced on the topic of the eyes being sunken in it could additionally be a nutrition deficiency. My daughter and that i had a Greek Tortoise that died approximately 5 years in the past from a nutrition A deficiency. nutrition deficiencies are frustrating because of the fact if a tortoise does not wanna consume something..they gained't. I used to offer ours all forms of diverse greens, yet he'd push particular issues aside and in straightforward terms consume choose he needed!! i'm so sorry on your loss..Greeks are astounding!! i choose yet another one!!

Yes.

If it stops eating, moving, stays in its shell, discharge from nose, eyes, cloaca, exhibits labored or "wheezy" breathing.

Depends on species, but even with less than ideal conditions at least 15-20 years.

The stupid kids will think you are cool while the smart ones will think you are stupid for trying to show off how cool you are for bringing a tortoise to school.
