siphon it out and get as much as you can out. oil is thicker than gas and can clog up the tiny holes in the fuel filter and fuel injectors and also cause your car to run very hot which can lead to other problems...

A quarter tank of gas, or quarter tank of the gas can ?

Don't start the car, don't switch on the ignition, nothing.

Siphon out the oil - the wet vac thing could work - but you'd have to get the hose all the way into the bottom. Otherwise, drop the tank - and drain out the oil.

No matter what you do, there will be a bit left - which you can then dilute with gasoline - no particular octane - just fill the tank. If you leave a quart of oil, diluted with 12 gallons of gas, you'll be at about a 50:1 mixture - which should run. Run the car until it's 1/2 tank - then fill again - you'll be at about 100:1. Run it almost dry. Then refill - you'll be OK.

# 1 tell your brother & anyone else who has access to the car, so no one tries to drive it before this gets fixed ... there is also the issue of someone putting oil in a container that is supposed to be for gasoline.

How old are you?
Do you have a driver license?

If anyone asked me to put gas in a car, I would drive it to the nearest gas station & get it filled up the normal way.

You now have 3 options

(a) This is a play car, it does not matter if it gets messed up worse or destroyed, it not matter what you do with it.

(b) You guys are not mechanics, or you would have known from very beginning what is difference between oil and gasoline & given that was not noticed pretty fast, there's other stuff you could mess up with ... so arrange to have the car towed to a professional mechanic garage & let them get it fixed correctly.

If you are in a decent sized city, this will probably cost less than $ 100.00 for the tow, and less than $ 500.00 to undo the big mistake.

(c) Try to fix it yourselves.
1. Siphon out as much of the oil as you can.
2. Put gasoline in it
3. See if it works

If you don't know how to siphon ... here's what I do
I have the container that the oil will go into on the ground at a lower level than the level of the gas tank ... which means the car may have to be raised up some how
I have a tube from inside gas tank that will end up where the siphoned stuff is going, but initially, I put my mouth on that end, and suck like a straw, then when the oil ends up in my mouth, I squeeze end and move end to where it is to go, see that it is flowing Ok, then I go to the bathroom to rinse out my mouth, then return to the car & hope no mess developed while I was gone ... it works better if there are two people there

are you sure it was oil? You can usually tell the difference, oil is very thick. the bigger issue here is people storing liquids in the wrong containers. you should tell your parents what happened, because unless you put the oil in the GAS can, it's not entirely your fault. A gas can is for gas, not oil. Whoever put it in there should have known better. Don't run the car - especially if you put 1/4 a tank of oil in the car. It'll ruin your fuel pump - its just not designed to push fluids that thick. Grab a wet vac and suck it out, then the next time you run it, put octane booster in it - you can buy it at autozone. that might be able to partially counter the drop in octane you'll have from the oil left in the tank.

A quarter of a tank is way too much. Either siphon it out, or remove the fuel tank and drain it. Don't worry about getting all the oil out, but get as much out as reasonably practical. Oil lowers the octane, and it's likely the car will have serious pinging problems with gallons of oil in the gas tank,

dont start it, first siphon the most u can out of the tank then have a mechanic or yourself remove the gas tank and fuel filter and clean them -if u started it already theres a good chance that u might have some sort of engine troubles

You might try and go ahead and fill the tank with gas and then just run it through the engine. It won't help it, but I doubt if it will hurt it either. Just don't so it again. good luck.

you have two choices. drain the tank and replace the gas, or fill the tank and drive it till it stops smoking out the exhaust (which will take the eintire tank full of gas to do. i would choose answer #1.
