IMHO, the U.S. troops are in Iraq to provide a rationale for and/or distraction from G.W. and his Dominionist, Evangelist and Neocon buds while they wreck our federal government, shred the Constitution, steal our civil liberties and set up a "Christian" theocracy reminiscent of Europe during the Inquisition.

Democracy for Iraqis to assuage Bush's ego. And apparently it's working. The ego part not the democracy for Iraqis.

Definitely Bush's ego/stupidity , if you were able to post this question in at least 4 languages and broadcast the question, you would't find somebody from outside USA that would agree with Bush.
Answering your question why American soldiers are dying for...to get Mr. Bush more oil.

I fear the latter. I hypothesize that we have a severe case of offspring rivalry. Who knows? Father Bush might be the best hope of getting this mess in Iraq strainghtened out.
