How do you reply to someone who says 9-11 was a random act of terrorism and was not politically motivated?

Terrorism generally isn't random. There's always some kind of ideological and/ or political motivation. I'd tell them to do a little research on terrorism in general.

If you really want to get into an argument (ask yourself if it’s worth it, and if you really think you can change their mind), then tell them that there’s no such thing as a “random act of terrorism”. Terrorists do everything they do to make a political or religious statement, and in that culture, there’s very little if any separation between politics and religion. To call it a random act of terrorism is to say that some guys were sitting around and thought “wouldn’t it be funny if we…” but were so stupid that they didn’t realize that they’d be just a little bit too dead to see the aftermath.

Unless you think that it was orchestrated by the US Government. Sorry – can’t help you out on that one, because I don’t believe it was.

Tell the person to do an online search of 9/11 information, or search for 9/11 videos on You Tube. There are plenty out there.

I'd take a minute to do some real research on the situation. A lot of people feel this is a matter of opinion, but there are facts out there, whether they've been released or not. Make sure to check lots of different news sites, not just fox and msnbc. A lot of times big news can be biased. Good luck!

You don't. What's the sense of arguing over it? People who believe it was a 'random act of terrorism' will never believe anything else; people who think it was 'politically motivated' will always believe the conspiracy theories. It's hard to change anyone's minds. Even if you invite them to view what appears to be considerable, credible evidence to support either hypothesis, opinions will not change.

Only give them the facts, calling names and judging them only discredits you and your ideas. However, giving them access to facts and information is the best thing you can do. These people have chosen authority as the truth as opposed to the truth as the authority, undoing that is a very difficult thing to do.
