Yep, he will... but not in the way that a soccer player actually should. Beckham is basically just going to L.A for fame. He really should sign with Hollywood instead! Its a common fact that he's overpaid. He'll for sure boost the revenues for MLS a ton. There's also talk of Zidane playing for L.A also. Maybe us "Soccer" fans are really about to get more talented players here in North America. Well.. its not the first time. Pele joined the New York Cosmos a while back and his impact was felt. I really wish Toronto F.C could lure a player of Zidane's stature... But then again, who wants to play in Canada! We're filled with polar bears and igloos!!! =)

He already has, without even playing his first game.
Thanks to his signing, MLS is getting more attention and awareness than it has since the league started in 1996. (When was the last time a MLS player was on the cover of Sports Illustrated?) The interest he's bringing to MLS is worth millions worldwide.
Remember, he doesn't have to "save" MLS -- the LA Galaxy was already a profitable team before he showed up, and with the worldwide TV rights, not to mention shirt (and other souvenier) sales, signing Beckham has already paid off -- but the increase in revenues can (and will) be reinvested into the Youth Development system (good for MLS, and for US Soccer in general) and he'll be one of several players (along with Blanco, Angel, Scholetto, Emilio, etc) who'll help raise the level of play in the league.

Not much. Why? Because (with all due respect) not many people care about 1-0 games, and Beckham is'nt a scorer.

NO way ..David Beckham is overrated...Him and his wife are just over rated and paid to prtend to be models ...He did not do anything for "real Madrid " it was a waste of money for them and it will be a waste of money for the USA
The guy above is thinking only about celebrity sttaus ...Great you'll have a bad team with alot of attention

No, for these reasons:
--- One great player and ten average players is still going to be an average team.
--- Americans usually only care about teams from their own locality. Californians care about as about NY players than the French care about Spanish players.
--- The few American fans watching soccer on TV saw a less than stellar performance by him in the WC.
--- He still isn't American. He won't play for Team USA.
--- I am still not hearing his name on ESPN or major U.S. sports outlets very much. His wife is getting more attention.

That's a good question. I think the popularity of the sport will go up a little bit but not much. Football, hockey, and baseball will still be the top sports.

For the media, shows, gossip, tabloids and such yes. For the game, he will not have any impact at all (financially it might even be the fall out of the league)

yes it will...FSC Report gave a statistic today...they said that in just two away games, New York Red Bulls have sold over 30,000 tickets and at DC United, they have sold over 40,000 tickets the most ever for a game...interestingly enough, these are the games that becks and the galaxy will be in town...i only expect these numbers to grow as he gets more popular along with the sport in the coming months

Unfortunately no. Celeb news is going downhill and Americans really wouldn't care as to who he is. It may make women swoon over him, but not go out and buy some shin pads.
