I bought the car a couple of months ago, and had it towed down from the mountian to my house. It is not even ready to drive, so anything requiring that is out of the question. The guy has not come through with the title. He has also given me a couple different stories on how he got the car. So, I'm hoping there is not a problem. First, it was going to be parked on his property for a month adn the girl never came back. Now her mom gave it to him. I do have a bill of sale from him, and it is him on it. He signed with his name, address, ect. Any ideas?

Well, the guy came to work where I do since I bought it (he knew I would be there) so he can't hide. Got the car dirt cheap, so the money can be made back in parts. Plus, keeping the floor shift and all. The back glass is worth 3x what I paid, so I will make money if that is what needs to be done.

Yes, like a carfax report.

I know they don't go back that far. That's why I asked.

Most DMV's allow a Title search, for previous owners. I've done that with abandoned vehicles, say that you acquired one, and need to find the previous owner(s). For $5 or maybe more, you should get any report on who the previous owners were. I did that for a 1955 Chevy Suburban in Virginia, and got registrations from VA to MD to WV on the report. I've done it on a 1972 Gremlin. So, unless your state has a problem with abandoned vehicles ( if you use that approach, you will probably get less hassle than if you say you want to find the previous owner, which you do, but an abandoned vehicle enquiry draws less suspicion of stalking and fraud than trying to find the owner of an abandoned vehicle to send a Registered letter to ) . Just my opinion ( and experience ).

That's like buying a pig in a poke. I wouldn't have given him the money unless he had the title. Without that, you don't know if the car is stolen or if he even owns it.

Call the DMV with the VIN number and see if they can tell you who owns the car. Explain the circumstances, and they may help you. If the car is stolen, they will confiscate it and you'll be out the cost, unless they can find the guy and you can get the money back from him. good luck.
