they broke the law, doesn't really have anything to do with the color of their skin. Do you think they wake up, look in the mirror and say hmm I'm black, I think I'll break the law today. Come on now.

Stopping the cycle will take a huge undertaking. You have to realize that many of these people are either homeless or live in a homeless shelter and have no real family or anyone to care for them. With that in mind getting through to them is incredibly hard since they likely don't have internet access, they don't watch TV and they just live life trying to make ends meet so there's little chance that the mass media can get through to them. Peronsally I think we need to start with their socially active and law-abiding counterparts to stop the newer generations from getting into the system. Once we get them not to do things that could get them in jail they'll raise their kids to be the same way and then maybe even some of them will get it through to the black people who are in jail that what they're doing is wrong and won't get them anywhere by living off of taxpayer's money. It's a long shot but I do believe that it's possible.

One has to wonder why the so called land of the free has so many people in jail, regardless of their color. In europe, england has the highest number of prisoners, some 80,000 from a population of 60 million. The US has 5 times the UKs population, but instead of having an equivalent percentage of people in jail (that would be 400,000) the US has over 1 million locked up. Are americans natural born criminals or is it that maybe the land aint so free after all.

Government studies show that the vast majority of New Yorkers who use and sell drugs are white. But more than nine out of ten inmates in New York State prisons for drug-related offenses are African American or Latino.
The police focus their anti-drug efforts almost entirely in urban minority communities, not in white suburbia. Even if caught, white defendants involved in drugs are much more likely to have the money and influence necessary to avoid prosecution. A black man convicted of a drug offense is 48 times more likely to be sent to prison than a white man.

There are so many "families" without a father in the picture.
Read the Bill Cosby speech.
Edit: stopping the cycle: take Cosby's advice-
Stay in school
Stay out of trouble
Don't idolize prison culture
If you have a child, be a parent

it might be because most of them live in the getto.. not all but alot do.. same goes for white or mexican.. the better question might be how many poor people who live in the getto and projects are in jail.. it could be that some of them can see no way out except but to committe a crime.. not saying that people who have more income committe crimes they do.. and people with money .. large admount of money do committe those crimes as well .. but look at them they buy there way out.. do you think if we did what some of the celebrites did .. do you think our punishment would be the same.. noway..no here is some info.. most serial killers are white men between the ages of 25 and 35

Why are there so many blue eyed women in jail???
Will we ever learn??? Its saddens me to see so many blue eyed women in the system. But what can be done. Its too late for most of them. I know that most of our women are decent but you cant deny that the majority of women in prison are blue eyed. 90% of the time they are repeat offenders. They act like animals. They dont care who they hurt they will do whatever to you and not think twice about it. I know its too late for them but how do we stop the cycle?
Jeesh get a life!

Why are there so many guys in jail period? 90% black? Please, will you provide for us the source of your statistical data. Boy, your racism and prejudice is hanging out all over the place here. Accuracy is necessary when you represent a percentage of population. I'm sure, however, there will be a lot of readers in here that will gleefully accept your arbitrary misrepresentation. Get your head out of that cat pan.

Don't you just love how everytime a person asks a racist question like this and people call them on it they bring out the "I'm half black" card.

I don't have enough time in the day to answer your question - but know that there are many many factors contributing to these stats such as poverty, rascism, and lack of decent defense in court.
Not to say that many aren't guilty as hell, but the way your question is worded makes you sound like an idiot.

Believe me...there's plenty other people in there too. Have you been inside one lately? Maybe you can take a tour and see for yourself. That way you'll know what you're talking about.
