The computer keeps telling me that it finds no OS on any disk even when I start it up with the OS disk in the drive.

I have tried it with dos boot disk and windows boot disk but keep getting the same message. I got into the bios and the C drive is the third in line to start.

Yes, I am saying I can't boot from the windows OS disk. The DVD/CD burner is new 6 mos. ago. Would something I did (or did not do) change whether it is reading or not?

OK, I tried almost everything that was suggested and it still would not load. I ended up taking it to a professional and he cloned my old hard drive somehow to the new one. Gave me a new motherboard and 3 times as much RAM as was in the old one. Works pretty good now. Thanks for all the help. Will let the votes choose the best answer as I don't know enough about it to say.

OK, you got into the BIOS and you stated "C drive is the third in line to start." Which is telling me that the BIOS is not actively looking to boot from the C drive. Try to get the BIOS to select the C drive as first to start. It's not hard to do, play around with the settings in the BIOS. I'd tell you exactly, but I've been drinking and I am sure my fingers know how to do it, but I can't quite conceptualize it for my fingers to type.

Most of the computers since 2001 (but not all) have motherboards that default to the C drive if there is no OS on the D drive or if the D drive is dead. Hmm... Another angle to look at is that your new hard drive is either improperly connected (Check the SATA/IDE connection and the power connection) or is a faulty unit. (Bad from the factory, or maybe you were not properly grounded when you handled it and static electricity got it.) Thus, you have a bad hard drive and that is why the stystem will not operate properly for you.

don't know if you got the OS to install yet, but when you install a new hard drive, you have to do a full install of the OS. You can't just use a boot disk, u have to install the full operating system on the new drive. if you have a cd with the full version of the OS, put it in the cd drive, restart the pc, and go to your cmos. make sure the first boot drive is set to your cd drive with the disk, and save changes and exit. when the system reboots, it should ask if you want to boot from the cd. say yes, and installation should begin.

you may installation the OS from a bootable gadget - often meaning a DVD or CD of the OS installer. Is your digital reproduction an ISO? if so, make a CD from it. you additionally can (with numerous artwork) configure a bootable USB reminiscence follow an installer, google for information you realize that a clean pc desires a clean license of the OS, nicely suited? So imaging an OS from yet another gadget would not be 'criminal', till we are speaking approximately Linux.

If you are having problems using a boot disk, first make sure your bios is set to boot from drive a: (floppy), then cdrom, then hard disk (usually IDE 0)
If you need a boot disk try www.bootdisk.com

You will have to physically install your new hard drive and then do an operating system install from cd or dvd.

Are you saying that you can't boot from an installation cd?
