In certain situations do you bite your tonue to avoid comfrontation? Or do you think it is more important to be blunt even if it hurts peoples feelings?

Tact and diplomacy are not my strong points; I do try to pick my words, the time, and place carefully when I have to tell some one what they need to hear vs what they want to hear.
I am straight forward, and say it like it is, no need to go to China and back.
I have found that most people; even when they may not like it at the time; really appreciate honesty.
The key is to be respectful, and not resort to any inappropriate language.

I believe in being civil to others and would never feel good about embarrassing someone. I like people who are blunt and to the point if they can be civil about it. In certain situations when I think someone has made a comment that was just stupid I always say... Oh really? What makes you think that way? I then listen to their explanation and alot of times if you make them explain themselves they will say omg that was really dumb wasn't it? I think everyone ought to practice being mature enough to bite their tongue when they know it will embarrass someone if they don't. If I totally don't agree with someones opinion I just say.... well I guess that's one way of looking at it. That way I don't make enemies because I have validated that they may be right in someones eyes.

I am learning...after many many years.
My advice to anyone here. LEARN EARLY TO COMMUNICATE!!!!!!! There ARE ways to do it without
confrontation, without hurting someones feelings!
If this helps at all...I finally figured it out (after TONS of work!) what my problem was; whether a love or friendship relationship, it was my fear of loss. (I have had a lot in my life)
Communication equaled risk. The risk of losing that person if I spoke up. Seems simple, but it took a long time to figure out why I didn't speak up. It has cost me dearly!!!!!! Best friend of 26 yrs.and a marriage of over 10 years. Even health -because I did not "confront" Dr.'s
There are many tools and many people out there who can help you to learn different techniques. Do it before you start to lose the things in life you love.
LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I bite my tongue on things and just let them slip. My husband on the other hand is extremely vocal and won't stand for anything. He always speaks up and tells the truth about how it is. Needless to say, a lot of people can't take him because they can't take the truth. I do feel you need to speak out and voice your opinion. It has to be so. Everyone needs to start being honest. Government officials and politicians included.

I generally speak my mind, but I draw the line at intentional statements purely designed to denigrate, shame, or hurt. Honesty is always the best policy and most relationships grow stronger when both parties feel free to speak openly.

after being married to the same woman for 39 years, I have learned that it is always best to keep my mouth shut most of the time.
the rest of the time I think about what I say before I say it.

I say what's on my mind... but I also know when to be quiet and not respond. It's called common sense.
