My son took acting lessons when he was younger. It was mostly memorization. Once the lines were down then they could use inflection and tonal modulation. He always seemed so fresh and spontaneous to me. But i could tell that his enthusiasm always threw the others off in their timing. His acting coach said he was really very good, but we didn't have funds for the portfolio or any more classes. He had fun and still remembers it.

Acting classes are usually starting with improvisational games. Then the teacher corrects you. We also had some things where we'd look deep into our imagination to become other characters. Then end with some script reading.

Singing lessons (I started when I was 18 btw so you have nothing to worry about). Start out with a LOT of warm ups. Usually different exercises to work the muscles and lips. Also breathing and technique exercises. Then we would sing one song and really work on it.

Good Luck

Acting lessons are going to teach you acting techniques, and then give you monologues and scenes to act out that use those techniques. You have to be really open to new things and be very willing to step out of your comfort zone.

Singing lessons are more my thing. My teacher starts me with breathing exercises to maximize my power and support. Then there's lots of warm-ups and exercises that take you to the lowest point of your range, and up to your highest notes. Then you work on some kind of song for recitals or gigs or auditions or shows. Pretty cool stuff. And no, 14 is not at all too late to start singing.

I dont know about singing lessons. But yeah acting is really really fun. My old teacher would make us do the weirdest things. When your actress your gotta be outgoing. So like she would make us make these really weird noises in front of everyone. And she would get props and we would have to pretend that there something else. Like a shoe we would pretend it was a phone or something. Because you need imagination when your acting. She would gave us a monolouge. ( Like a one person really short skit.) And we would have to mermorize by like the end of the week. And make us improove on our acting skills. I only did a month of acting classes and i wish i could do it again. Im 12 by they way. I did this when i was like 10 i think. Its soooo much fun. You should try it. But to be on a television and stuff is really hard. And cost lots of money. You have to have an agent. You have to have a mom whos willing to drive you to alot of places. You cant be dissapointed when you dont get a part. so yep..
buh bye

In acting lessons, you have a coach or teacher who listens to you and gives you tips to help you improve. You will usually start with improvisation, like "It is really cold and you are out of food. How do you feel right now?"

Once you get in touch with expressing feelings, believably, you can progress to scenework. Be aware, however, that your coach or teacher may coax you to do or feel things that you do not feel comfortable with.

I am not talking about molestation (if so, RUN! FAST!), but about opening your comfort zone, and finding your inner Voice.

If your coach or teacher is hard on you, and keeps expecting better, remember that he or she does not Hate you; on the contrary, he or she sees your potential, and is trying to help you. If your coach or teacher does not challenge you to be better, find another one.

As for singing: Find your center pitch, and pay a professional to tell you what you are doing wrong.

BTW: NEVER EVER pay up front for ANYTHING!

You are never too young to engage and indulge in something you'd rather do in life than anything else. Because that's your joy. That's part of what makes you tick, what makes you you. But at least try it. See if it really fits. Maybe it is a passing fancy, but in a class you'll have support, friends, new experiences and fun! You go to classes to smooth the rough edges, to fall on your face, to act completely stupid and to work, especially in acting classes. Work to get ready to showcase your voice. Decide how you want to use your voice. Pick material that shows your range and quality to their extent. Learn about different types of singing and vocalizing. You might discover a style of singing or acting you're not even aware of. And then do the practice: the scales, the notes, the monologues and the scenes. Learn to read music if you want. But don't fail to practice every day. Set the time aside to practice every day. Learn when to breathe and when not to, how to open your throat and let your voice carry, how to support your voice from your diaphragm. So you can be heard. So you can be noticed. By the rest of the world. The first thing to do is go to the library or a bookstore, or get on the Internet and start reading about your favorite singers aand actors. Find out how they got started. Read scripts for plays and movies. Study song lyrics. Learn to read music. Read up on the history of theater, film and television and how to audition. If you have access to cable, start watching shows about actors, singers, directors, writers. Start hanging with theater people, entertainers, but don't get sidetracked. Pump them for information on how they and the system work. Get involved in community theater and start working with directors and other actors. Audition for a play or musical. Learn who has the best classes, who will really work with you. Watch how other people perform onstage and off. But most of all learn about what is inside of you, inside other people. Learn about what motivates people, to act, to sing, to make mistakes and to do the things they do. You're at that time in your life when you'll start to wonder about these things anyway, so this is a great time in your life to get started on an entertainment career. Go for it!

14 is a good age to start singing lessons. do it.

Acting lessons vary from teacher to teacher. The only ones that are any good for you are those in which you do lots of scenes and monologues and you do not do a lot of exercises or theatre games or improv or other junk, 'cause you only learn acting by acting.

well singing isn't my thing....but i know that there is only so much a lesson can do, and if you are a natural you can start whenever and be successful. acting lessons, you really have to come out of yourself and not be afraid. it will be scary if you are shy. the more outgoing and the more intelligent you are, the better you are at reading, the better you are at acting lessons.
