I have this oil painting I need to mail but somehow I can't find a box to put it in.. all the boxes I find are huge and that doesn't work for me
Would it be a good idea to warp it in paper and mail it like that?
What could be another option?

Take it to a shipping place like Mail Box Express and have them mail it for you.

If you want to DIY, go to a shipping container/cardboard store and buy a picture frame shipping box. Wrap the painting in several layers of archival paper, wrap it in 2" of bubble wrap for a total thickness of 5 inches (2" each side plus your painting), create some cardboard corners to tape to the corners, and then place in the box to ship.

Another solution would be to remove it from the frame, gently roll it up in several layers of archival paper and ship in a tube.

Take it to a UPS or another shipping place. They will have the proper box to ship just about anything. Plus if they pack & ship it. The item is insured. Worth the few extra dollars to ship some items.

Buy the appropriate size mailing tube available at any mailing center and carefully roll it and seal the tube. Address and send.
