I thought it was the French with the rude reputation, but I would say that Americans are brash, with no intention on being rude. We are still a former British colony, so we can also be quite polite.

On behalf of all Americans, I apologize for anyone being rude. Have a nice day.

I don't think ALL Americans are rude and or rebellious I think it's just easier for people to label other countries and cultures that they are not familiar or comfortable with, rude I include Americans in that statement as well but then again it could be all humans can be rude in general to one another, its just the degree of rudeness that varies. Besides a little rebellion is not bad, otherwise we’d all be sheep or French :)
by the way I come across rude and rebellious sorts from one end of the globe to the other.

Hi James,

I'm American, but I do not consider myself to be overly rude. I guess it just depends on social conventions what one people or the other sees as "rude". To Asian people, even the British seem "rude" when they do not bow or leave their shoes outside when entering a building. To us, Asians seem to be rude when they snort instead of using a tissue to clean their nose. And rude answers... do you mean here? I've noticed that sometimes people apparently want to be funny or ironic, and the problem is that this is really hard to do when you're writing. There's just so much more to communication than just the words.

Well, I hope you do not consider me rude, and if you count me as an exception to your "rule", well then: no, not all Americans are rebellious ;)

Have a great evening

Anna

i think what you are seeing as "rude" is really an attempt at humor. We don't always succeed in being funny but we attempt it, perhaps its a cultural thing. i dont believe its "all americans" its like saying all europeans eat chocolate, without asking everyone in europe how can that possibly be a true fact. i'm sorry you think its rebellious & rude, perhaps taking a more open approach to another's culture you may not understand will help you cope a little better. Also note alot of the people on this site are underage and think humor comes in the form of toilet humor and cuss words. Its a large world brought much closer by technology, its time to open ourselves up and enjoy a dialogue that allows us to explore one another, faults included.

I'm guessing your not American. Anyway, let me be the first American to give you a polite and honest answer. I think that there are many Americans that are off the wall, and feel the need to mess around with peoples minds. I think there's something like that in all of us, but Americans feel more eager to express it, most likely because we give freedom of expression a very high rating in our country, but some answers just go to far, and aren't called for.
I hope this answer has been informative, and very non-rude.

Of course not! Americans typically have an outspoken personality however. We have had more freedom than most people in the world for almost our entire existence and we exercise that freedom and speak out in order to maintain it. Rebelious I would say not, outspoken, I would say that is more accurate.

There's a difference between being rebellious and merely voicing your opinion or questioning authority. Most Americans aren't rebellious, per se, but because we have freedom of speech (and have had it for so long in comparison to other nations) we are at ease to voice our opinions or question authority. Sometimes this rubs people the wrong way, though.

Americans are not rude, you try getting on a bus or tube in London and experience the pushing and shoving. That is rude. Americans wait in line as they call it and quietly wait their turn.

Seems there are a great deal of them indeed, but there are very many kind and generous souls too. This place seems to have a share of rude ones...my guess is most are just kids.

There are plenty of others that are rude too.... there's just a LOT of Americans, so it just seems like we're all rude.
