87 octane is fine in all models. If the engine "knocks", then a higher octane is recomended to correct it. If you prefer the cheaper price of gas, but want a higher octane level, you can purchace octane booster from any auto store.

Sounds like you need at least a 91 octane fuel.

However, my Lincoln has a high-performance 32 valve V-8 that runs fine on regular AS LONG AS I DRIVE IT EASY.

You computer system has a spark-knock sensor and it will make timing adjustments to compensate for lower octane fuel...but don't push it hard without the right stuff!

Use the gas that the manufacturer recommends. Don't waste your money on better gas that your engine can't use.
