Lou Barlow is a master of these things. It's mostly an accoustic tune with a really pretty melody and catchy, sing-songy hook. The chorus is:
There's a world outside our window
There's no mystery of desire (or alt. "though you're all that I desire)
I couldn't make you happen
So I'll set this house on fire
The verses have kind of a conversation/explanational tone to it. Kind of the conversation that would precede him packing up and leaving. It's funny, the song is really sad, but kind of has a certain optimism to it that you kind of have to hear it to really convey it. It's just in the tone of the melody and layout of the song. It's just really well put together.
