and what kind of research has gone into this claim?
who knows this and how do they know?

The zero point field, the quantum vacuum demonstrated by the Casimer effect, is the resonance of energy fields in the space between objects. However, the distance between the objects must be very small and is measurable only on submicron scales. It is not in any way applicable to Earth's precessional position in 2012.
Although we need more research into polarity reversals, Earth's last one (the Brunhes-Matuyama reversal) occured 780,000 years ago so it does not appear to be related to precession either.
Earth's atmosphere is related to it's iron core and will not be lost.
One may expect an increase in volcanic and earthquake activity in the years surrounding 2012 but these will be due to planetary stresses caused by the interaction between Earth's magnetic field and the larger magnetic field of the Milky Way.
When studying the possible effects of 2012, we must be wary of those who seek to gain prominence or notariety through misinformation and those who seek to cast fear towards others through end-of -the-world or armegeddon tactics.
Much information about our planet and natural cycles may be gained through a proper study of 2012. But this subject has attracted those who purport ficticious and fanciful claims which cause only to cloud the path of those who seek true knowledge. Be prepared to cast off 80 percent of what you read as false.

information approximately previous polar reversals looks to assert that the reversals at the instant are not prompt; the approach can take hundreds of years to end; that's in comparison to a swap is flipped. The magnetic poles have been shifting around slightly already, that's not new. So; i don't think of something will take place that we will not adapt to or detect a artwork-around. Navigational maps have been as much as date each and every few years to handle the wandering poles for hundreds of years; so we've been responding to this type of element all alongside. The magnetic container has weakened over the final a hundred and fifty years; so photograph voltaic flares would reason some issues of digital units and satellites; yet lower back, responding to photograph voltaic flares is something we've dealt with all alongside. My in basic terms caveat is that we do not know the way Earth's center works o.k.; there is in all probability slightly chaos on the midsection of the earth. using fact we don't have all the information we would desire to make predictions, no you possibly can say if or while some form of catastrophic journey would take place-my terrific wager is that changing polarity in and of it self would be a nuisance yet not catastrophic. even although; there is modifications in the middle that the shifting poles would be an illustration of, and those modifications would desire to reason different issues that would desire to deliver approximately annoy......we do basically not know sufficient to make any form of predictions.

I can't give you a 100% correct answer but as far as i believe. The earth may reverse polarity in the year 2012 but this will not affect our atmosphere nor will we 'fall off' the earth.

I am sure that there has been a few times in the earths life when it has reversed its polarity and of course nothing happened then. Its just something that happens every now and then and is part of its average cycle

Why do you ask as if you believed there was ANY TRUTH to it?

There is NO EVIDENCE that the Earth will reverse its polarity in 2012. NONE, ZIP, NADA.

The process of polar reversal has happened in Earth's history many times before. The atmosphere is STILL HERE. Why would you think otherwise?

There is little research going on about this because it is a manifestation of hoaxsters who want to sell a book, and other weak-minded individuals who actually "buy" this horsecrap.

Your imagination has taken a rampant turn in the direction of "out there". Please reel it back in. Thank you.

This is completely made up.

In 2013, the end of the world believers will have to find another prophecy of some sort that predicts the end of the world.

That is what they have had to do in all of the prior predictions of the end of the world.

By the way, the polarity reversals have happened in the past and there is no evidence to support that mass extinctions happen when they do. The only things that seem to die off when it happens are radiolaria. Even then, they do not go extinct.

The Earth's polarity has been shown to have changed several times (not in our lifetimes) and we still have an atmosphere. I don't know what the "zero point field" is, but I'm not worried about it.

I looked it up in wikipedia, and it doesn't mention anything about magnetic fields reversing polarity. Where did you hear about this happening? Sounds bizarre to me.

I have not heard this claim. What is the zero point field? Polarity reversal takes thousand of years. They are not instantaneous. 2012 is the end of a great cycle on the Mayan calendar and also the end of a 26000 year precession cycle for Earth.

I remember watching a programme on this a while back, and they came to the final conclusion that when it does happen, it will most likely just alter the way a compass points, will alter the size and location of the aurora borialis, wreck navigation systems that rely on the magnetic field and screw with migratory birds, but thats about it really, its not a looming Armageddon

I agree with Anniekd. The molten center of the Earth is shifting, flipping, or turning over, as this happens hotter and cooler spots cause some strange effects in our atmosphere, Aurora Borealis, weather ect

However long we are in the zero point field will probably affect the outcome.
