I called the exterminator and he said that there aren't cockroaches in my apartment but that they're coming from my front door. I already spotted 3 medium sized ones within this month and they were near on my computer boxes, near my computer desk and CPU. It is very disgusting just to see them.

I poured boric acid near the door, but how do I prevent them from coming in?

I'm wondering what state you live in? I've beat them when I lived in the south and when they waltzed through my front door in Okinawa, Japan. Both the cockroaches and the water-bugs that people like to call cockroaches, (but they aren't).
Keep using the boric acid on the doorstep, and be sure to spray the entire door frame with bug spray. They like to creep into the cracks there and scoot in when the door is opened.
Seal all openings into the walls around pipes with that expandable foam spray. They will enter through the gaps around pipes under the sink. Also, those "Roach Motels" do work. Put them everywhere...under the fridge, sink, and furniture. If you get lizards, (we did that in Okinawa), don't use the boric acid where he can get into it.

I hate those. I was told that the boric acid needed to be digested in order to work. So it's supposed to be mixed with cornmeal and set up as a type of bait. Maybe if the bait isn't too close to the door, it will distract them from coming in?

Have you considered weatherproofing your door?

I never had a lot of luck getting rid of varmits while living in an apartment, because the other tenants never cooperated with extermination time.

Best wishes!

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.

If the apartment building is not been fumigated completely ,there is nothing that you can do, even if you are spotless ! put all your food such as cereals etc...in sealed containers . The only option is to move and make sure that you don't take any with you when you do!
PS I just read Mel S idea ,go for it!*****

You need to put one of those little roach motels on either side of the door. They are cheap, so put them inside and out.

Also, spray bug spray completely around the door.

You can buy a rubber floor scapper to close the gap. I did it at work because of the same problem and it works great.
