Department Stores. Liquor stores have smaller sized ones but the Department Stores typically have larger ones and TONS of them! You can even call ahead and ask if they have any available for free.
Craigslist - Many folks who've just unpacked tend to post FREE moving boxes. That could be a good source too.

FYI...If you get used cardboard boxes, especially those that have contained food or have been in dumpsters that contain food ,you run a great risk of infesting your new place with cockroaches. Roaches love to lay eggs in the hollow ribbing of cardboard and the mature ones hide there as well. Better to spend the dollars and buy clean boxes.

Try your local grocery stores, Walmart, K Mart, or other local stores.
We have a Dollar General here and I called them. They had a dumpster in the back of their store that held all of their cardboard boxes.
To save time and gas, call around and ask when they get their stock in so that they will have lots of them. Groceries stores will sometimes hold them for you until you get there.

Behind any retail store. Most shopping malls have a compressor near the loading dock that exists solely for the crushing of cardboard. Check it out.

Ask your local grocery store to save boxes from the meat department preferably chicken boxes or beef boxes, make sure you are there as soon as they say. Ask when the delivery day is.

When I move I alway go to the recycling trash bins in the back of drug stores. Most of them all have them.

Drive behind a strip mall or shopping center and check out the recycle bins, they are usually full.
