Call it blood diamond or bloody oil. We are pretty much involved in every mess out in the world to protect out intrest. we are the ones who demand cheap oil. We invented the nuclear weapon. first and only one ever to use it on innocent people. we went to vietnam to help a curropt and unpopular goverment. And when it so really about genocide and democracy (Liberia and Sudan) we put minimal effort. just enough to get by. No saying that we are evil. To me USA is one of the best country in this world. We helped in kosovo, bosnia and many places where it mattered. Then again we are not really innocent either.

I think other countries should take the blame for their own evils...blood diamonds and bloody oil among them. Of COURSE we protect our own interests. Whose interests are we supposed to protect. And don't get me started about Vietnam. The Khmer Rouge was evil incarnate and the massive genocide that they perpetrated is just a footnote in history. We put "minimal effort" into places like Liberia and Sudan because they are much more like Vietnam and Cambodia than many of us want to admit.

The USA is one of the best countries in the world. We help pretty much everywhere and get absolutely no credit for it. The ingratitude is amazing. Of course we aren't innocent, but we are also no longer naive, at least, my generation isn't.

Innocent, No.
However you are no more guilty than a lot of countries throughout history.
I suppose your government is doing what they feel is the right thing to protect American intrests, but what about the intrests of the people on rhe other side of the coin.
As a Canadian, I could understand your government going into Afghanastan after the Talaban, especially after Sept 11.
I can not understand why they went into Iraq, or maybe I can.
It was not WMD,s it was oil.
The American people are not guilty of the criminal behaviour of the government, and hopefully will change the government in a democratic way in 2008.

If "Innocent" is a synonym for "Naive" ... yeah.

If "Innocent" means that we don't have blood on our hands, not by a long shot. Our CIA has, from time to time, been just as ruthless and evil in the name of tactical gain as any other, KGB, Third Reich, etc.

That's the cool thing about the Freedom of Information act - its all there in black and white.

And by the way, I am not going to let the fickle finger of fault lay at the doorstep of the CIA - it is only as corrupt or evil as the leaders instructing it. Yeah, I'm sure there is some skuldugery afoot not known by the top leadership, but not as much as has been suggested BY the top leadership and the Whitehouse.

Who ever said we were innocent you fool? We just suck less than the rest of them. Grow up and join the real, imperfect world, and pick a side for Christs sake!

The Neocon Agenda.
Perpetual war.
They reserve the right to attack any country they perceive to constitute a threat.

Bottom line.
The United States has empowered and supported plenty of dictators, death squads, and repressive regimes.
We got tons of practice at that.
Democracy.....we don't know jack about it.

I've never said we are innocent of anything. I guess it depends on your definition of the term. But, I do know one thing for sure and that is: I'm damn glad we are looking out for our own interests, because if we weren't, just who do you think would?

Considering the quantity of metaphorical sack cloth and ashes being passed around, I'd say we're much /less/ guilty than we like to think...
