Throughout the ages we have two types of humans traversing the earth; People who have a clue about spirituality and people who don't. Guess which category has the most people in it?
True spiritual knowledge is acquired either through mysticism and/or cataclysmic experiences, and is a very personal revelation.

No. Mankind is still not ready for it. Not likely to be for a while. Every decade someone comes up with a new date for the enlightenment of mankind, usually far enough ahead of their book sales to make a hefty profit before being held accountable.
There isn't a date. It's an act. When we no longer eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (great parable, that, with lot's of interesting idioms if you know some Aramaic of the time period), then we will be invited back into Eden.
Revealing such knowledge just results in new religions, new crusades, new jihads, etc. People assume they are done, and prance around saying "I have the truth!" when all they have is a map. They haven't done anything. They received a map and then stood still, doing nothing.
Jesus said it best. These things are "veiled" in plain sight and hearing. They bring power, but those who seek power cannot find them, for they cannot see and hear what they do not seek.
A man, dying of thirst in a bazaar because he cannot see the water in the well, or in the pitcher by his hand, and brushes aside those who would show him.
"I am looking for water, you fools, not clay, not stone!"
Nothing will happen until we are ready, and we must give up our original sin (not sex, read the parable again, without "translations and added meanings) we will stay hiding in the brush from reality.

I agree with you that it is time for these "mysteries" to be reinterpreted and brought out into the open. But, the 'dark side' is infinitely more subtle than what you describe. We 'live by faith' is literal. The contents of consciousness - mostly buried - is mirrored by our experience of reality, hence the focus of sacred documents on "purification."
My research has shown that the primary reason for use of metaphor (including Jesus' parables) is not only because the insights are related to the relationship between psychological states and physics - and there was no adequate scientific language when ancient sacred documents were written or compiled - but more importantly that the KEY to the power of causality/creation is a "purity of detachment/disinterest." On the surface "not caring," is considered an extremely dangerous proposition for society as a whole - humans are conditioned to care and fit in to what supports the culture - and even Christ's message was about acceptance and inclusiveness. (While his metaphorical message was related to death of the ego/body level identity) But, 'disinterest in egos' (including one's own) is the most rarefied of spiritual states - pinultimate to unity between the inner and outer world.
Check out "Mysticism" in Wikipedia for some background on purification/transcendence across cultures. The Gospel of Thomas is extremely interesting and powerful.

I like the concept of a critical mass for describing how or when it would come to pass. a date cannot be placed tho.
If one doesnt wish to see one cannot see. then agian there are many ways of describing the same thing. and somethings some have words for that others dont.
all things must follow thier own path - even the things that when we are all counted - we make up. change happens.
I consider the the observance of a pendulum swinging. as it swings it changes its path , perhaps circular, perhaps eliptic. its speed changes, its path changes. whose to say with out hind sight which change it made was right or wrong. but anyway it goes it will eventually come ot a stop its centre.
I hope what I said there isnt too great a riddle :)
but then some will decide what I said there is all tosh all in good time eh?

Some spiritual knowledge is esoteric, but most is accessible to all with focus and study in various forms. This has always been so.
If you have ever read Greek myth and tragedy or Shakespeare you will be aware that man has always been conscious of his power.
It is only through a strong survival instinct and vast strokes of luck that the human race does survive.
Mother Earth is constantly changing and the sooner we learn to control to control our egos and get over our selves the better.

You are an interesting person. So good to see someone have a real thought.
I truly feel that Mother Earth can take care of herself.
I feel that knowledge is hidden until each person is ready to receive it. This comes from your growth as a mind/body/heart.
If the knowledge was known prior to people being ready for it, there would be chaos.
Everything its unfolding as it should.

Ask the church with the big "RC" in front of it, if it HAD to be veiled or if they did it because they were afraid they would lose political control should truths be known. They're the ones that worked to cover it up the first time.
And for the record, more and more people are realizing that they must find their own paths - this is the best hope we as a people have.

We are not a human being having a spiritual experience. We are a spiritual being having a human experience. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
The fact is spirituality is our natural state. Why would this be hidden from us? We merely allow the material distractions to hide our light until we are ready to claim it.
