our neighbor has approached us a few (3 or 4) times concerning a package he was expecting. he claims the vendor has the "wrong" address, and if we get it - to just bring it over for him. we've obliged, but thought it was strange that the packages were not addressed to him. so the other day, we received a call from a vendor who was investigating a particular incident of credit card theft. the package was supposedly sent to our address. so we suspect that our neighbor is up to no good - and using our address to receive stolen goods. what should we do? and if we report it, how can we prove any of it? we have no records of any of the packages. thanks in advance.

Well, report it to the vendor who called. That is a start. Call the police and let them know. Also, contact the post office and let them know. The next time one of these packages shows up, take it to the post office and give it back to them saying that it is not yours. Do not give it to the neighbor.

You need to do something or you will be considered an accomplice in all of this. According to the companies, you are the person who has received the packages. You have no proof that you gave them away and you have no proof that you and the neighbor were not working together. However, to an investigator, that conclusion is not too hard to make from the evidence.

you can call the police and talk to detective, advise him of the call you got from the merchant, and give him their contact information. perhaps you can work it so that the next time you get a package you call the detective and have HIM deleiver it to the neighbor with a roster of questions.
