At home I have a Compaq laptop, at work a Dell laptop, have had no problems with either, my son who works in the field likes the Acer laptop says they are the best for the money. The reason I am saying laptops is then you can take it home with you to work at night. If you do not want to purchase Microsoft Office (awesome program) you can get one almost identical for free. It is called open office and can be downloaded at openoffice.org

You aren't saying you want to spend big bucks, so you will be fine within your list of choices. There are so many intense users on here -- and they think in terms of getting something pricey since it's what they would get -- I would too.
But is anyone really answering your ACTUAL question? lol...
I have both a Sony (High-end), and an eMachines (Low-end).
The Sony will do difficult tasks with ease. The eMachines will do the same tasks but take longer. Either will search the web fine. Either will run Word with ease. Either will run bookkeeping software with ease.
Where the Sony rocks is in audio and video production, gaming, and so on. But you're not needing that.
So really - for your needs - The HP is a good choice. Next in line -- the eMachines. They both have good customer support, but I don't know about guarantees for business uses.
So here's the summary: Get the PC with the MOST memory, since you're not so worried about the amount of storage space (hard drive). Get the PC with the best software, if you don't already have your own. And put GOOD money into your printer -- since you want to make a good impression, not crappy print jobs.
A cheap mouse, keyboard, and mouse aren't really a big deal if the public won't see them -- but if they will, just make sure it all looks professional, and most of them do anyway.
Good luck with your new biz! :)

A bit of research on what exactly the top performing computers are will reveal that pretty much every computer brand found in stores such as Walmart, are absolute crap.
emachines have cheap components...and are notorious for power supply problems.
Gateway
Dell
Toshiba (Laptop)
are your best bets.
Another smart choice is to have a reputable independent, build you a customer computer.
There is a small company in Logan Utah called P.O.S.H electronics...they evidently build outstanding computers...Theirs outperformed the Dell computers at Utah State University, and now the university is switching.

emachine is a bad computer. I suggest investing in a Dell or Toshiba if you want a PC that is great and affordable. Stay away from Walmart or anyother discount store when buying an computer. GO to somewhere like BestBuy, HHGreg, Circut City, or CompUSA

Try www.bluehippo.com that may be what ur looking for. I'd not get into the pavilions cause they seem to be limited to alot of things. Also some can't be upgraded. I know and My old one is in the shed.

all three of those brands are pretty crappy, they are notorious for problems and the price reflects the poor reputation, which is why wal-mart sells them.
If you want a good quality PC look for Sony, Toshiba or Dell (dell is more mid-quality, not great quality)
